Have you ever sat in a quiet space—maybe a library, a studio, or your kitchen table—paintbrush in hand or journaling something from the heart, and suddenly wondered:“

Can I really sell this?”

Or felt that familiar tension between faith and finances?

Hi, I’m Bev Jessup, and I help worn-out Christian creatives find peace, purpose, and healing through art journaling, creativity, and time with God. If you’ve ever felt that your creativity is just a hobby, or worse, that charging for your gifts is somehow wrong, this post is for you.

This week, while preparing for my October art exhibition, I found myself painting in the library and battling that exact guilt. “Is this really ministry if I sell my work?” I wondered. But God gently reminded me: selling is not greed—it can be service.

Why Do We Feel Guilty About Monetising Creativity?

As Christians, we often carry the belief that because salvation was a free gift, everything we offer should be too. We're taught to give freely, and that can become a block when we try to share and price our creative work. But the Bible doesn’t condemn selling. In fact, Proverbs 11:26 says:

"People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell."

We see this principle in the story of Joseph, who stored grain during times of plenty and served others by selling it during famine. He didn’t hoard; he responded to a need.

Your Gifts Have Value—And Purpose

Whether you create journals, prints, devotional kits, mugs, t-shirts, or run workshops, what you offer is a reflection of the gifts God has placed in you. Your years of learning, your testimony, your trials—all shape the work of your hands.

I spent over 30 years as a speech therapist, and even then, I undercharged at first because I didn’t recognise the value of my experience. The same mindset can creep into our creative life. But your creativity is not an afterthought. It’s ministry. It’s meaningful.

You Need Money for Your Mission

We can bless others with free content (like this blog or my YouTube videos), but certain missions require resources. Running a retreat, printing journals, designing devotional kits—these all cost something.

That's why I started my Creative Sanctuary membership. It's only £7/month, but it helps support a community of women who are overwhelmed, anxious, and stretched thin. It offers them a safe space to reconnect with themselves and God through creativity.

Whether it's a membership, a course, or an in-person retreat, don’t be afraid to ask for money in order to serve more deeply. Monetising your creativity with prayer, purpose, and love is not selfish—it’s faithful stewardship.

Show Up With Integrity

Matthew 5:37 says, "Let your yes be yes and your no be no." When we say, "This is what I offer," and show up consistently and honestly, we reflect God's character.

This week, God reminded me to be honest about who I’m really here for: Christians who are exhausted, burned out, and in need of creative space to hear from Him again. That honesty shapes how I show up and what I share.

It Is Biblical to Monetise Your Creativity

Let me leave you with this gentle encouragement: done with integrity, purpose, and love, monetising your creativity can be a form of worship. If you’ve been sitting on a dream because you didn’t think you were "Christian enough" or "creative enough," this is your permission slip.

Don’t hide your gifts under a bushel. Let your light shine—and if people are blessed enough to want to pay for what you create, let them. You are serving them. You are honouring the One who gave you those gifts.

Hi, I'm Bev

I’m Bev — a former speech therapist of 30+ years who spent her career helping others find their voice. Along the way, I discovered that creativity is one of the most powerful ways to find clarity, healing, and purpose with God.

What began as personal art journaling during seasons of grief and burnout has grown into a creative faith space where women reconnect with God, themselves, and what truly matters.

Hi there, I'm Bev Jessup

Bev was brought up in a Catholic home, where her parents instilled in her a deep faith and reverence for God. Growing up, she attended church regularly and participated in various religious activities. However, when she went to university, her world was turned upside down. Her friends started talking about having a personal relationship with Jesus, and Bev was confused. She had never heard of such a thing, and she didn't know what it meant.

Determined to find answers, Bev began to explore the Christian faith further. She read books, attended Bible studies, and talked to her friends about their experiences. Eventually, she came to understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus, and she made a commitment to follow Him.

This decision changed Bev's life forever. She experienced a sense of peace and purpose that she had never felt before. She began to see the world through a new lens, one that was filled with hope and joy.

As she continued to grow in her faith, Bev met her future husband at university, and they fell in love. They got married in 1992 and started a family. Bev and her husband have three adorable sons, whom they love and cherish.

Today, Bev and her family live on the Isle of Wight in the UK. She spends her days painting, journaling, spending time with family, walking, and traveling. But above all else, she continues to follow Jesus and share His love with those around her.

Bev's story is one of courage and determination. Despite the confusion and uncertainty she faced, she never gave up on her search for truth. And when she found it, she embraced it with all her heart. Her commitment to Jesus has transformed her life and the lives of those around her.

My mission is to empower women to embrace their creativity and use it as a tool for spiritual and personal growth. Through my work, I aim to inspire women to discover their true potential and overcome any challenges they may face on their journey.
