When Doubt Whispers, But Purpose Calls

— A Creative’s Reflection on Fear, Faith, and Showing Up

I didn’t expect to have a revelation in a car park.

But isn’t that just like God?
He speaks in the still, in the ordinary, in the quiet moments we almost miss.

This week, I went to an art show — a beautiful gathering of creatives, makers, artists, dreamers. Tables filled with handcrafted items, bold canvases, delicate pottery, and imperfect-but-beautiful offerings from the hearts and hands of people just like me.

Only… I wasn’t one of them.
I wasn’t exhibiting.
I wasn’t sharing my work.
I was just… sitting in the car.

Watching. Wishing. Wondering.

And then the voice came.

Not God’s.

That other voice. The one we all know too well.

“It’s not good enough.”
“No one would buy that.”
“You’re not a
real artist.”
“Who do you think you are?”

And for a moment, I believed it.
Again.

The Inner Critic Is Loud, But It Isn’t True

That voice? It’s not creative.
It’s not constructive.
It’s not the Holy Spirit.

It’s fear. Dressed up as realism.
Drenched in shame.
Dripping with doubt.

And it’s robbed too many of us of too much.

Dreams shelved.
Art hidden.
Books never written.
Songs never sung.
Businesses never started.
Ideas never voiced.

And yet — here’s what I saw as I walked around that art show:

Not perfection.

Just courage.

Messy, beautiful, vulnerable courage.
People choosing to show up with their gifts, however unfinished or “unqualified” they may have felt.

And I heard it — not audibly, but deep in my spirit:

“You’re not called to be perfect. You’re called to be faithful.”

Faithfulness Over Flawlessness

This is something I have to remind myself often — maybe you do too:

God doesn’t require flawlessness.
He’s not grading our brush strokes or our Instagram feeds.
He’s not waiting for us to become some polished, fully-qualified version of ourselves before we’re allowed to serve, speak, or share.

He simply asks us to show up.
To trust Him with the outcome.
To offer our
loaves and fish — our small, honest gifts — and let Him multiply them.

Because it was never about us being impressive.
It was always about being obedient.

The Light You Carry Was Never Meant to Be Hidden

Jesus says in Matthew 5:14–16:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

You have a light.
Yes,
you.

Not just the people you admire.
Not just the influencers or the published or the full-time artists.
You. Right now. As you are.

God doesn’t call us to shine when we’ve “made it.”
He calls us to shine where we are.

Because someone is walking in darkness, and your light — even if it feels like a flickering candle — might be the one thing that helps them find their way.

What If You Just… Showed Up?

What if we stopped listening to that inner critic, and started listening to the still, small voice of truth?

What if we stopped hiding and started creating, even if it’s imperfect?

What if we believed that our creativity isn’t just for us, but for someone else’s breakthrough?

What if we let faith have the final word instead of fear?

That’s Why I Created the Creative Calm Challenge

I know I’m not alone in this.
There are so many of us — creative souls who feel stuck, scared, or silenced.
People who have something to share but can’t quite find the courage to bring it into the light.

That’s why I created the Creative Calm Challenge.

It’s a free 5-day journey to gently reconnect you with your God-given creativity, your inner peace, and your divine purpose — using art journaling, reflection, and rest.

It’s not about creating a masterpiece.
It’s about creating space.
Space for God to speak.
Space for your soul to breathe.
Space for you to show up, even if your hands are shaking.

Hi, I'm Bev

I’m Bev — a former speech therapist of 30+ years who spent her career helping others find their voice. Along the way, I discovered that creativity is one of the most powerful ways to find clarity, healing, and purpose with God.

What began as personal art journaling during seasons of grief and burnout has grown into a creative faith space where women reconnect with God, themselves, and what truly matters.

Hi there, I'm Bev Jessup

Bev was brought up in a Catholic home, where her parents instilled in her a deep faith and reverence for God. Growing up, she attended church regularly and participated in various religious activities. However, when she went to university, her world was turned upside down. Her friends started talking about having a personal relationship with Jesus, and Bev was confused. She had never heard of such a thing, and she didn't know what it meant.

Determined to find answers, Bev began to explore the Christian faith further. She read books, attended Bible studies, and talked to her friends about their experiences. Eventually, she came to understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus, and she made a commitment to follow Him.

This decision changed Bev's life forever. She experienced a sense of peace and purpose that she had never felt before. She began to see the world through a new lens, one that was filled with hope and joy.

As she continued to grow in her faith, Bev met her future husband at university, and they fell in love. They got married in 1992 and started a family. Bev and her husband have three adorable sons, whom they love and cherish.

Today, Bev and her family live on the Isle of Wight in the UK. She spends her days painting, journaling, spending time with family, walking, and traveling. But above all else, she continues to follow Jesus and share His love with those around her.

Bev's story is one of courage and determination. Despite the confusion and uncertainty she faced, she never gave up on her search for truth. And when she found it, she embraced it with all her heart. Her commitment to Jesus has transformed her life and the lives of those around her.

My mission is to empower women to embrace their creativity and use it as a tool for spiritual and personal growth. Through my work, I aim to inspire women to discover their true potential and overcome any challenges they may face on their journey.
