Have you ever felt guilty about earning money from your creative gifts? Maybe you sell journals, paintings, cards — or you run paint parties or creative workshops. Maybe you’ve wondered, "Is it okay to charge for something God gave me?" Or maybe you’ve quietly believed, *"I’m too old. It’s too late. I’m not qualified."

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

In this post, I’m opening up about my personal journey with money mindset wounds — and how God has been reshaping my thinking. We’ll name the lies, explore what Scripture really says, and I’ll share two resources that have been powerful in helping faith-driven creatives reset their thinking and step into their God-given calling.

My Story: Scarcity, Shame & Starting Over

I came to the UK from Uganda as a refugee at age four. My parents had to leave everything behind — our home, our car, even my brothers, who we couldn’t afford to bring over at the time. We arrived with only what we could carry.

I grew up watching my parents work incredibly hard and still face rejection and racism. My mum used to say, "You’ll have to work twice as hard to be seen." And I believed it.

Even after becoming a qualified speech therapist and helping people around the world, I still carried this deep root of fear and guilt around money — especially in Christian spaces. I felt like maybe I shouldn’t be working. That maybe I wasn’t spiritual enough if I earned an income. That maybe I wasn’t qualified enough. That maybe… I wasn’t enough.

But slowly, God began to uncover the lies.

The Lies We Carry (and the Ones I Believed)

Here are some of the lies I had to face — maybe you’ve heard them too:

  • “You shouldn’t charge for something God gave you.”

  • “It’s selfish to want financial freedom.”

  • “If it’s ministry, it should be free.”

  • “You’re too late.”

  • “You’re not qualified.”

These are lies that keep us stuck. Lies that keep us playing small. Lies that keep us burnt out, broke, and believing that our creativity isn’t worth anything.

But these are not what God says.

What Scripture Really Says

Let’s walk through a few verses that have spoken deeply to me:

📖 2 Corinthians 9:11

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

God enriches us not so we can hoard — but so we can give. It’s not about chasing wealth. It’s about impact. Your overflow becomes someone else’s answered prayer.

📖 Matthew 25:14–30 (Parable of the Talents)

“Well done, good and faithful servant… You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”

God honours stewardship — not fear. The servant who hid his gift was rebuked. The ones who multiplied were celebrated. Playing small is not obedience — it’s avoidance.

📖 Proverbs 28:1

“The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”

You don’t have to apologise for the gifts God placed in you. You can walk in confidence, not fear.

📖 Esther 4:14

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Your timing is not a mistake. You are here for a reason. Your voice, your art, your ideas — they matter now.

Hi, I'm Bev

I’m Bev — a former speech therapist of 30+ years who spent her career helping others find their voice. Along the way, I discovered that creativity is one of the most powerful ways to find clarity, healing, and purpose with God.

What began as personal art journaling during seasons of grief and burnout has grown into a creative faith space where women reconnect with God, themselves, and what truly matters.

Hi there, I'm Bev Jessup

Bev was brought up in a Catholic home, where her parents instilled in her a deep faith and reverence for God. Growing up, she attended church regularly and participated in various religious activities. However, when she went to university, her world was turned upside down. Her friends started talking about having a personal relationship with Jesus, and Bev was confused. She had never heard of such a thing, and she didn't know what it meant.

Determined to find answers, Bev began to explore the Christian faith further. She read books, attended Bible studies, and talked to her friends about their experiences. Eventually, she came to understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus, and she made a commitment to follow Him.

This decision changed Bev's life forever. She experienced a sense of peace and purpose that she had never felt before. She began to see the world through a new lens, one that was filled with hope and joy.

As she continued to grow in her faith, Bev met her future husband at university, and they fell in love. They got married in 1992 and started a family. Bev and her husband have three adorable sons, whom they love and cherish.

Today, Bev and her family live on the Isle of Wight in the UK. She spends her days painting, journaling, spending time with family, walking, and traveling. But above all else, she continues to follow Jesus and share His love with those around her.

Bev's story is one of courage and determination. Despite the confusion and uncertainty she faced, she never gave up on her search for truth. And when she found it, she embraced it with all her heart. Her commitment to Jesus has transformed her life and the lives of those around her.

My mission is to empower women to embrace their creativity and use it as a tool for spiritual and personal growth. Through my work, I aim to inspire women to discover their true potential and overcome any challenges they may face on their journey.
