πΏ Born for Such a Time as This: Understanding Purpose, Calling, and Assignment
Today is Good Friday, a sacred day where Christians around the world pause to reflect on Jesus' incredible sacrifice for us on the cross.
As I sat in prayer and reflection this morning, one verse kept coming to my heart:
"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" β Esther 4:14
You, dear friend, were born for such a time as this.
In a world full of chaos, rapid change, and uncertainty β where people are feeling overworked, underpaid, emotionally drained, and broken β
God still has a plan.
And you are part of it.
Today, I want to share with you the life-changing difference between your Purpose, Calling, and Assignment β and how you are perfectly shaped for the season you're in.
β¨ Purpose, Calling, and Assignment: Whatβs the Difference?
If youβve ever asked yourself:
What is my purpose?
What am I really called to do?
How do I know my assignment?
You are not alone.
Letβs break it down:
π Purpose
Purpose is something we all share as followers of Jesus:
To expand the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
Itβs not about chasing titles, achievements, or popularity.
Itβs about reflecting God's love, truth, and light wherever we are β whether thatβs in our homes, workplaces, communities, or creative spaces.
π Your purpose never changes.
π Calling
Calling is also the same for every believer:
To develop an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Itβs not about religious rituals or ticking boxes.
Itβs about waking up each day and running to Jesus first β pouring out your heart, listening to Him, journaling with Him, and making Him the CEO of your life and dreams.
π Your calling is to know Him and walk with Him β every single day.
π Assignment
Assignment is where it gets personal and seasonal.
Assignments are:
Temporary
Unique to you
Change with the seasons of life
Iβve had many assignments:
Being a mother to my three boys
Working as a speech therapist for 30+ years
Now, helping those who are tired, broken, and creatively blocked unlock the God-given creativity inside them
Assignments grow, evolve, and transition β but they always serve your bigger purpose of expanding God's Kingdom.
π Your assignment can (and should) change over time.
πΏ You Are Perfectly SHAPED for Your Assignment
You might be thinking, βBut Bev, I donβt feel qualified for anything new right now!β
Maybe you even feel worn out, like Moses making excuses at the burning bush.
But here's the truth:
God never gives you an assignment without equipping you for it.
You are perfectly SHAPED for the work Heβs asking you to do.
I love how Rick Warren explains this through the acronym SHAPE:
β¨ S β Spiritual Gifts
When you accept Christ, the Holy Spirit gives you spiritual gifts.
These are supernatural empowerments like wisdom, teaching, encouragement, leadership, or mercy β designed to build up others and bring God glory.
You have at least one spiritual gift!
β¨ H β Heart
Your heart is the set of passions God wired deep inside you.
What causes you to cry?
What excites you?
What would you fight for if you had nothing else to lose?
Your passions are clues pointing toward your assignment.
β¨ A β Abilities
These are your natural talents and skills β things you are good at, often without even trying.
You might be gifted in organizing, creating, speaking, teaching, problem-solving, crafting, cooking, designing, or caregiving.
God uses all of it β nothing is wasted.
β¨ P β Personality
Your personality is a beautiful, intentional design from God.
Whether youβre introverted or extroverted, a thinker or a feeler, structured or free-spirited β God created you just the way you are for a reason.
You donβt have to change your personality to fit your assignment β God wants to use it.
β¨ E β Experience
Every experience you've lived through β the joyful, the painful, the hard-fought, and the triumphant β has shaped you.
God wastes nothing.
Even the seasons you wish you could erase are being redeemed to prepare you for your Kingdom assignment.
πΌ Today is a New Day
Today, I want you to remember:
You are not too late.
You are not too broken.
You are not disqualified.
You are perfectly SHAPED for the season you are in.
Even if you donβt feel ready β you are.
God has given you everything you need to step into your next assignment.
You were born for such a time as this.
