Release Your Creativity: Why Now Is the Time to Start Creating (Even If You Feel Stuck)
Have you ever sat with the feeling that there’s something more you’re meant to do? Maybe you’ve felt a nudge toward creativity, but you’ve told yourself, “I’m not creative,” or “It’s too late to start.”
You’re not alone. I was there, too. For years, I helped others find their voice as a speech therapist, but I kept hearing a quiet whisper that I was made for something more—something creative. And when I finally picked up a paintbrush and opened a journal, I found freedom.
I found me.
“Creativity takes courage.” — Henri Matisse

Matisse said it best.
Creativity does take courage.
Not because you need to be perfect, but because creativity asks us to show up. It invites us to be seen, to share our voice, and to express what’s inside us. And that can feel scary!
But here’s the truth: Creativity is a gift we’re all born with.
It’s in you. You just have to release it.
Why Creativity Matters Now More Than Ever
We live in a noisy, often overwhelming world. It’s easy to feel disconnected from ourselves, our purpose, and what really matters. But creativity can be a bridge back to all of that.
Pablo Picasso once said,
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
And he was right.
When we create—whether that’s painting, writing, journaling, or crafting a new business idea—we reconnect with who we truly are.
For me, art journaling started as a way to process stress. I didn’t expect it to become a path to peace, faith, and even business. But that’s the thing about creativity.
Once you begin, it leads you somewhere beautiful.
You Don’t Need to Be an Expert to Begin
Vincent van Gogh said,
“If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
That quote has been pinned to my wall for years.
Because here’s the secret: You don’t need permission to create.
You just need to start.
And you don’t need fancy tools. I began my journey with a simple notebook and a pen. Over time, I discovered tools like Canva, Easy Peasy Funnels, and Buzzsprout that helped me share my creativity and grow a business from it.
3 Simple Ways to Start Releasing Your Creativity Today
If you’re feeling the nudge but don’t know where to begin, here are three gentle steps:
1. Start Small
Write a sentence. Doodle a shape. Take 10 minutes to journal your thoughts. Tiny steps create momentum.
2. Let Go of Perfectionism
“Done” is better than perfect. Your creativity doesn’t have to look a certain way to be valuable.
3. Surround Yourself with Inspiration
Join a community, listen to a podcast (like mine 😉), and fill your space with encouragement.
“The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.” — Neil Gaiman
Imagine how it would feel to wake up tomorrow knowing you’ve made something that’s never existed before.
That’s the power of creativity.
And you can start right now.

Final Thoughts: Your Creativity Has a Purpose
I believe God put creativity inside you for a reason. Not just to create art, but to create change—in your life, and maybe even in the lives of others.
As Maya Angelou said,
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
And that’s been true in my life. The more I create, the more alive I feel.
I want that for you, too.
