When God Gives You a Dream: How to Move from Vision to Actionon Comparison, Identity & Imperfection - Copy
Have you ever had a dream that felt so good it made you question if it was even from God? Like maybe it’s too exciting, too personal, too creative… and you begin to wonder, “Is this just me being selfish? Could I miss God's will if I follow this?”
I’ve been there too. I know how tangled it can get—especially for us as Christian women, when we've been taught that sacrifice is the only route to holiness. But today, let’s dismantle that lie and step into truth, peace, and purpose.
I’m Bev Jessup, founder of the Creative Sanctuary, where I help Christian women reconnect with God through creativity. If you’ve ever felt stuck between desire and duty—then this is for you. Because your desires aren’t dangerous. They’re often divine invitations.
Let’s start with this:
Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
This verse isn’t a blank cheque—it’s a blueprint for alignment. When you truly delight in God, you begin to want what He wants. The dreams planted in your heart don’t pull you away from Him—they pull you deeper into trust, obedience, and impact.
For years, I wrestled with the thought that if something brought me joy, it must be less holy. That was the lie I swallowed for decades: that obedience meant denying every desire. But Scripture tells us otherwise:
Philippians 2:13 – “God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”
Let that sink in: He gives you both the desire and the power. That changed everything for me.
One of the desires God placed in me years ago was to combine art journaling with faith. I ignored it at first—I thought, “That’s too soft. Too weird. Not ministry enough.” But when I finally surrendered and stepped into it, I discovered it was exactly the door God had opened for deep healing and connection—for me and for others.
Here’s the truth I’ve come to know in my bones:
Ephesians 2:10 – “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”
Your design is not a mistake. The creative things that light you up? They were planted in you on purpose for a purpose.
But I get it—so often we treat our dreams like they’re a test: “What if I get it wrong? What if I miss God?” I used to live with that fear constantly, until God reminded me:
Proverbs 16:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
God’s not waiting to punish you for making the wrong move. He’s guiding you step by step. He doesn’t use fear to lead—He uses peace.
2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”
When I started planning my first retreat, I was terrified. I didn’t feel qualified. But I followed peace. And every time I took a step forward—venue booked, invites sent, workbook printed—God met me with provision and grace.
When doubt creeps in, I use what I call the 5Rs:
Recognise the lie
Repent (change your mind)
Replace it with God’s truth
Reinforce it daily
Rejoice—walk in it with joy
Romans 12:2 – “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
We often wait for clarity before we move. But God often says, “Take the step, and I’ll light the path.”
Hebrews 11:8 – “By faith Abraham… went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Faith is motion. Not perfection. Not certainty. Just motion.
So I use this framework in my own life and with the women I coach:
See the dream.
Agree with it.
Decree it with your mouth.
Proceed—take action even if it’s messy.
Because guess what?
James 2:17 – “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
One step I took recently? Launching a membership that felt far too ambitious. I doubted whether anyone would join. But I saw the dream. I agreed with it. I spoke it out loud. And then I proceeded. Today, women are finding healing and deeper faith through it.
Maybe for you the next step is registering the domain name. Or pulling out the paints. Or saying yes to the podcast idea, or writing that first paragraph of your devotional.
Isaiah 30:21 – “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
Don’t do it alone. Isolation is a dream killer. Surround yourself with a community that speaks life.
Hebrews 10:24–25 – “Let us consider how we may spur one another on… not giving up meeting together.”
When I created the Creative Sanctuary, I didn’t realise how much I would need it too. I thought I was building it for others. But God used it to anchor and affirm me.
Here’s one final encouragement: speak life over your calling. Don’t let your inner critic be louder than your Creator.
Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
For years I said, “I’m not really an artist.” But when I began to say, “I am a creative daughter of God,” everything changed—my confidence, my voice, and even my results.
So, friend, hear me clearly:
Your dream is not too big for God.
It’s not too small, either.
It’s not too weird.
It’s not too late.
And it’s not selfish if it leads you closer to Him and serves others.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
So what is your next faithful step?
Don’t overthink it. Begin.
God didn’t plant that dream in you to torment you.
He planted it so He could walk it out with you.
If you need a place to start or a community to walk alongside you, come join us in the Creative Sanctuary. You don’t have to do this alone.
And if this video has stirred something in you, drop a comment below. Tell me what dream God is awakening in you right now.
You were created to thrive. Let’s go live that truth—together.
When God Gives You a Dream: How to Move from Vision to Action
Have you ever felt like God whispered something to your heart that felt too big, too bold, or too beautiful to be real?
Maybe it came during prayer, in the quiet after tears, or while you were creating something — painting, journaling, or sitting in silence. A dream so deep it feels sacred.
I know that feeling well. For me, it was the dream of creating a space where women all around the world could gather — not just to talk about faith, but to experience God through creativity. To use their gifts of journaling, painting, writing, or crafting to express worship, find healing, and build community. That dream became the Creative Sanctuary. And it didn’t happen overnight.
So what do you do when God gives you a dream?
Here are the steps I believe every faith-driven woman needs to take when she senses God is calling her to something more.
1. Recognise the Dream is Holy
First, pause and acknowledge: this isn’t just a good idea. It might be a God idea. Genesis 37 reminds us that Joseph's dream wasn't random. It was divine, and it came with purpose, pain, and promise.
Ask yourself: Does this dream align with God’s character and Word? If so, take it seriously. Write it down. Honour it with prayer.
2. Get Clear on Your "Why"
Before you rush into building anything, ask: Why does this matter to me? Why might God be asking me to do this?
For me, my why is layered:
Because I know creativity helps me manage anxiety and hear God’s voice.
Because I long to be part of a community that doesn't just consume faith but creates from it.
Because I believe God wants us to use the gifts He gave us to draw closer to Him and to each other.
And yes, because I don't want to feel alone in this calling.
Knowing your why will steady you when the road gets hard. When no one signs up. When tech breaks. When doubt creeps in.
3. Surrender the Timeline
God gave Joseph a dream as a teenager, but it took decades and detours before it was fulfilled. Don’t rush what God is refining. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time."
Progress might look slow or even invisible, but obedience is success. Trust the process.
4. Take the First Practical Step
Dreams stay dreams unless you act. Is it to:
Start a journal and begin sketching ideas?
Share your story with a trusted friend or mentor?
Buy the domain name? Book the venue? Start the Instagram page?
For me, it started with a workshop. Then another. Then a Zoom session. Then the Creative Sanctuary was born.
5. Build in Community
Don’t do it alone. Invite others in. Pray with them. Plan with them. Listen to wise voices and surround yourself with people who believe in the dream with you.
I host co-create sessions inside the Sanctuary and I can tell you — something sacred happens when we gather, create, and reflect together.
6. Revisit the Vision Often
When you feel weary, go back to the journal, the original word, the moment He spoke. Ask again, "Lord, remind me why we started this."
Let Him renew your fire. As I shared in the podcast, there are days I feel like a roaring flame, and days I feel like a flickering wick. But God sustains it.
7. Know That You Are Worthy of the Dream
Some of us believe the dream is good, but we are not. That’s a lie. You are called, chosen, and equipped (Ephesians 2:10). You are worth being supported. You are worth being paid. You are worthy of rest, joy, and abundance.
That’s why I also dream of retreats — spaces where women can gather in person, be nourished, and feel seen. And yes, to grow personally and financially too. Because God gives good gifts, and stewardship includes receiving.
